(Lubb-e Lubab-e Mathnawi-ye Ma‘nawi)

by Mawlana Mulla Husayn Wa‘iz-e Kashifi,  edited in English by Wazir Dayers

For those who would like to embark on a guided journey of self-discovery and understanding through the teachings of Rumi, this wonderful book offers a well-travelled path which has been enjoyed by spiritual seekers for well over 500 years.

This book provides a series of lessons, in which the guide thoughtfully employs the timeless teachings of Rumi to lead the seeker, step by step, toward the goal. In the words of the editor, Wazir Dayers:

[This] is the very first English version of a unique Persian Sufi book that is virtually unknown in the West: Lubb-e Lubab-e Mathnawi-ye Ma‘nawi, which loosely translates as The Heart of Hearts of Rumi’s Mathnawi.

It was written in the 15th century by the Persian Sufi scholar Mawlana Mulla Husayn Wa‘iz-e Kashifi. This work is an extensive thematical anthology of Hazrat Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi’s Mathnawi. Mawlana Wa‘iz-e Kashifi compiled the Lubb-e Lubab-e Mathnawi as a help for fellow Sufis who studied Sufism using Hazrat Mawlana Rumi’s Mathnawi.

In Persian-speaking Sufi circles it is almost as famous as the Mathnawi itself. Surprisingly enough, it has never been published in the West. But now it is available to students of mysticism and the many lovers of Hazrat Mawlana Rumi’s work. It is ideal for all who wish to immerse themselves in the immense profundity of Hazrat Mawlana Rumi’s mystical message.

In rendering this text, the editor has provided skillfully updated English renderings of R. A. Nicholson's masterful translation of the Mathnawi, and has also included helpful comments regarding many of the original Arabic/Persian words used by Rumi. Throughout this text, the volume and paragraph numbers (which correspond to Nicholson's text) are provided, making further study of the Mathnawi quite convenient. Additionally, all Arabic/Persian words in the text are presented with diacritical marks, which are so often omitted, but add such valuable clarity and accuracy to the text.
